About Catherine
Catherine Ferguson first moved to the Peninsula in 1995 and has been living in White Rock for over a decade with her husband Bob and their dog Charlie. Catherine chose White Rock as her home because of the generous spirit of the people, the natural beauty and unique character of the community.
Catherine grew up on a dairy farm in the Fraser Valley with ten brothers and sisters. Anyone familiar with dairy farming will know that Catherine is no stranger to hard work, and this work ethic has been very useful throughout her life.
Having studied business at Fraser Valley College, she received a Business Certificate from Capilano College, and then took additional business courses at BCIT. She put the resulting business acumen to work, being responsible for administration, financial statements, budgeting and audits for an international travel company. She was also a partner in a successful construction company for many years. These experiences have given her a keen understanding of what is required to succeed.
Catherine’s inspiration for public service began at an early age. At age seven she worked on her father’s first election campaign for Mayor of Abbotsford. George Ferguson has since served the community for almost forty years and is one of the longest standing Mayors in Canada. Catherine’s commitment was fueled by the example that her father provided of standing up for what you believe in, and making decisions based on principles of respect, trust, facts and the overall good of the community. Taking a Common Sense approach to Leadership and weighing each issue on its merits leads to finding practical solutions to issues we all face.
Catherine was first elected to public office in 2005, when she won a seat on White Rock Council. Since then, Catherine has held monthly meetings at in the town centre coffee shop Coffee with Attitude to learn more about issues of concern to the community. And since taking office, she has continued to serve the community with extensive volunteer activities.
Now is the time for Catherine to focus her energies on representing the people of White Rock as Mayor. Catherine is confident her collaborative and respectful style of leadership will serve the City well.
